POSITION SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the Healthy Living Director, the Personal Trainer will conduct personal training sessions according to the standards of the certification held and the YMCA's mission and philosophy. The Personal Trainer is responsible for building positive relationships among members, participants, volunteers, and staff by actively greeting and providing excellent customer service, guidance, and leadership. The Trainer creates and delivers Personal Training programming based on participant's goals and abilities while maintaining boundaries of certification. The Personal Trainer will instruct participants on correct position and body alignment to prevent injuries.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSCreate a positive member experience through welcoming participants and ensuring they are actively engaged in their workout.Clean Fitness Center equipment.Coach members in support of their desired behavior change. Engages with members in a friendly manner: greets, welcomes, provides assistance or directionMonitor functionality of Fitness Center equipment and report equipment needing repair to Healthy Living Coordinator. Attends all department and staff meetings.Conducts New Member Orientations, InBody Assessments, Kinotek Assessments as requested.Be visible and accessible while on dutyDemonstrate and enforce the core values (Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility) to staff, YMCA members, program participants, volunteers, and the general public.Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living.Provide a safe workout routine by demonstrating proper form and technique, appropriate modifications, and cueing. Maintain a clean and safe workout areaEffectively utilize scheduled training time Properly set up and breakdown class equipment in allotted time frame Build community through forming positive relationships through learning names, and helping members reach their Health & Wellness Goals Respond to critical situations and maintain physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency Lead and participate in exercise/fitness activities Communicate verbally to large and small groups of members Keep accurate attendance records, tracking when sessions are redeemed.Recruit and retain training clients by providing information, answering questions and ensuring follow-up at the end of each session.Know, follow, and understand all facility guidelines and policies.Maintain client confidentiality.Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONSNCCA Accredited Certification: ACE, ACSM, ISSA, NASM requiredMinimum 3 months of professional experience in Fitness settingStrong communication skills and the capability to work with members of all fitness levels and abilities Knowledge of fitness principles and practical applications required Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency Physical ability to lead and participate in exercise/fitness activities Ability to communicate verbally to large and small groups of members CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:American Red CrossAmerican Heart AssociationAmerican Safety & Health Institute
