A Personnel Commission is a non-partisan public body responsible for the administration of a "merit system" in a public school district. The Commission oversees employee selection, retention, and promotion of classified (non-teaching) on a merit basis. The Personnel Commission in the Compton Unified School District consists of three (3) members. One member is appointed by the Board of Education; one member is appointed by the largest classified Bargaining Unit within the School District; and these two members appoint a third member as a neutral Commissioner. Terms of Office are for three (3) years on a staggered term basis with one Commission vacancy occurring every year on December 1. Commission meetings are held at least once per month. There is a possibility of up to a maximum of five (5) meetings per month. Compensation for each meeting is limited to $50.00 per meeting; not to exceed $250.00 per month.C
