Pest Control Worker is assigned to the Department of Health Vector Control Program under the general supervision of the Environmental Health Program Manager. The incumbent performs rodent and insect inspections, community surveillance, and education. The Pest Control Worker is required to serve in the Incident Command Structure (ICS) as assigned.
This position will play a role in Public Health Emergency Preparedness, Prevention, and Response, and they must be able to respond any time should such an event occur.
The Pest Control Worker is responsible for adhering to environmental health ordinances and regulations. They will:
- Inspect the exterior of buildings and premises for signs of pests or infestation.
- Determine the type of treatment needed to eliminate pests.
- Use baits to remove or kill pests.
- Apply pesticides in and around buildings, alleyways, and other structures.
- Assist with integrated pest management plans.
- Conduct neighborhood surveillances.
- Disseminate pest control prevention materials.
- Apply pesticides according to City of St. Louis codified ordinances and State of Missouri laws and regulations.
Some experience working in pest control is required, which includes the ability to read and comprehend written instructions, prepare and maintain records, and perform physically demanding work.
