Job Title: PET/CT Technologist
Location: NYC, NY
Duration: 2 months Contract
Schedule: DAY Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm
Hourly rate: $85/hour on W2 (Negotiable)
NOTE: Dual License Required: Nuclear Medicine and CT
Job Duties- Perform PET imaging on patients of all ages under the direction of the Director of PET and clinical supervision of the reading physician.
- Comply with all laws, regulations, hospital policies, Nuclear Medicine standards, Radiation Safety requirements, and NYS DOH guidelines.
- Follow radiation safety practices, including proper handling and use of radioactive materials.
- Perform ordered PET/CT examinations according to departmental protocols and Standards of Practice.
- Review procedure requests, protocol sheets, medical records, and patient screening information before examinations.
- Complete all required pre-procedure preparation, including:
- Fasting and dietary requirements
- Hydration
- Glucose level checks
- Voiding
- Suspension of interfering medications
- Maintain current Permits to Practice.
- Explain procedures to patients and families and obtain interpreter services when required.
- Assess patient needs before, during, and after imaging procedures and respond appropriately.
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals and contrast agents under appropriate physician guidance and in accordance with established protocols.
- Perform equipment quality checks, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate service calls when necessary.
- Document radiopharmaceutical doses in NMIS and client systems.
- Provide patients with required Dose Exposure Cards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and uncluttered imaging environment.
- Transfer and archive studies to PACS, MIM, and SMS clinical server/Syngo systems.
- Provide completed images to the reading room according to departmental protocols.
- Monitor and communicate supply needs and complete required administrative tasks.
- Follow HIPAA, quality assurance, infection control, and patient confidentiality requirements.
- Report to the assigned PET area promptly at the beginning of each shift.
- Perform and document required QA procedures, wipes, and radiation survey measurements.
- Properly manage radiopharmacy delivery cases by:
- Refilling cases with empty syringes and vial shielding
- Closing and labeling cases with the appropriate “Empty” sign
- Positioning cases safely to maintain clear passageways
- Maintain necessary supplies for daily operations.
- Follow PET protocol guidelines, including appropriate uptake/wait times after radiopharmaceutical administration.
- Acquire additional imaging views when necessary to optimize diagnostic information, as directed by the reading physician.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience- Ability to start peripheral IV access lines.
- Experience performing injection procedures, including:
- Manual unit-dose injections
- Dose delivery systems such as Medrad Intego
- Working knowledge of:
- Personal computers
- PET/CT cameras and processing workstations
- Medical charting systems
- PACS
- RIS
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including shifts longer than 8 hours when required.
- Ability to interact professionally and ethically with attending physicians, residents, fellows, and other healthcare personnel.
- Ability to produce high-quality specialized imaging with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and assist with training personnel.
- Flexible, reliable, and capable of exercising sound judgment and initiative.
- Demonstrated competency in all relevant areas of PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine.
- Maintain competency in SNMMI Quality Standards, including:
- CPR
- Infection Control
- Imaging associated with anesthesia
- Ability to process all PET/CT imaging, including:
- Axial Fusion processing
- Myeloma Kidney Standard Cut
- Coronal Cut
- Ability to perform PET/CT camera quality assurance, including:
- X-ray QC
- PET QC
- Monthly constancy testing
- Ability to perform QC on dose calibrators, including:
- Medrad Intego
- AtomLab 500
- Wipe counter
