Physical Requirements

This position requires intermittently sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time; and performing tasks with repetitive motions (such as typing); and occasionally standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 pounds; and lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Also involves some exposure to risk of injury from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials; and exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, cuts/punctures, and blood-borne or airborne pathogens.

Shift

Second shift, Monday through Thursday. One summer and one winter holiday per year.

Job Summary

Provides Pharmaceutical Care to patients in Kentucky Children's Hospital inpatient hospital setting. Reviews and interprets medication orders and drug profiles to ensure appropriate drug therapy has been prescribed. Contacts and confers with physicians and other practitioners to optimize drug therapy. This will include active review of patient profiles, provision of therapeutic drug monitoring, participation in emergency response, etc. Compounds and dispenses medications for neonatal and pediatric patients. Provides supervision of technical staff and confirms the quality and accuracy of dispensed products. Maintains inventory and records on narcotics and other forms of drugs.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Strong clinical skills; knowledge of inpatient drug distribution and dispensing; ability to prioritize; excellent communication skills; team mentality; desire to teach; and motivation are required to excel in this position.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No Preferred Education/Experience

PharmD degree preferred. ASHP PGY1 residency and/or PGY2 specialty residency preferred.
