Job Description

Gallup, New Mexico

Red rock country on historic Route 66 – hospital pharmacy practice at the top of your license.

The Community

Gallup sits at 6,500 feet in the high desert of northwestern New Mexico, ringed by red sandstone cliffs and framed by historic Route 66. Red Rock Park offers 640 acres of trails minutes from town, including the Pyramid Rock and Church Rock climbs, and the 22-mile High Desert Trail System draws hikers and mountain bikers year round. The city is a nationally recognized center for Native American art, with trading posts, galleries, ceremonial events and nearly thirty downtown murals. Cost of living runs well below the national average, traffic is nonexistent, and the surrounding Colorado Plateau puts world-class scenery within an easy drive.

Getting Here

Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) – approximately 2 hours 15 minutes east on I-40. Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG) is about 3 hours west.

The Facility

Gallup Indian Medical Center is a 99-bed acute care hospital serving one of the largest patient populations in its region, with roughly 250,000 outpatient encounters and 5,800 inpatient admissions each year. Clinical services include internal medicine, cardiology, anesthesia, OB/GYN, general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT and radiology. Pharmacists here practice across both inpatient and outpatient settings, round with physicians as therapeutic advisors, and work in a genuinely collaborative clinical environment. A secondary ambulatory site in Tohatchi, approximately 40 miles north, provides weekday outpatient pharmacy services to the surrounding communities.

  • Any-state license accepted. New Mexico licensure is not required.
  • W2 with full benefits through KurzSolutions — medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO.

Responsibilities

  • Review medication orders prior to dispensing for safety, appropriateness and efficacy, including allergy checks, interaction checks and dose appropriateness
  • Resolve identified therapy problems directly with the prescriber and document in the patient record
  • Fill and dispense prescriptions in accordance with federal and state law and professional practice standards
  • Counsel patients and caregivers on safe and effective medication use using two patient identifiers
  • Round with physicians as a therapeutic advisor on the inpatient service
  • Maintain unit-dose medication systems and prepare IV admixtures
  • Conduct daily checks of emergency drug supplies, crash carts and poison antidote carts
  • Maintain formulary inventory, provide drug information on request and participate in quality assurance activities
  • Complete all chart entries and pharmacy documentation before the end of each shift

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy
  • Current, valid, unrestricted pharmacy license in any US state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or a US territory – New Mexico licensure is not required
