Job Summary:

This pharmacist would predominantly work the overnight shift at Upstate University Hospital's Downtown Campus, joining a team of overnight pharmacists and technicians. Overnight pharmacists at Upstate work a modified 7 on / 7 off schedule and enjoy a 20% differential for overnight shifts. Remote order verification and/or support may be performed for our Community Campus during overnight shifts. This pharmacist will practice within a progressive pharmacy model at Upstate University Hospital. Applicants will join a talented team of pharmacy personnel to deliver exceptional pharmaceutical care.

Pharmacists at Upstate participate in all aspects of care, including clinical patient monitoring, sterile product preparation/oversight, medication distribution, transitions of care management, code response and patient counseling/education. As an academic medical center, opportunities for teaching and scholarship exist and are encouraged. Pharmacists at Upstate have the opportunity to practice at the top of their pharmacy licensure.

Job Duties:

  • Interpretation of medication orders and prescriptions to ensure they are complete, safe, rational, and compatible with institutional policy.
  • Preparation of compounds and dispensing medications for inpatient and ambulatory care use, including the preparation of injectable sterile products and non-sterile compounds.
  • Performing duties in various practice locations, including inpatient, emergency departments, ambulatory care clinics, and transitions of care settings.
  • Providing information to health care practitioners to promote the safe and rational use of medications.
  • Maintaining pharmacy records according to law and institutional policy.
  • Interpreting policy and procedures for hospital staff.
  • Participating in teaching programs for the department and hospital staff.
  • Participating in the department's quality assurance programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm.D and NYS Pharmacist license and registration (or eligible) required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous hospital experience preferred.

Work Days:

  • Rotating Shifts - mostly overnights
