This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Program Integrity (CPI), Audits & Vulnerabilities Group (AVG), Division of Medicare Plan Oversight (DPMO).

As a PHARMACIST, GS-0660-14, you will provide authoritative clinical pharmacy expertise and guidance in support of one or more CMS program policy or support teams.

Duties

Help

  • Serves as lead pharmacist and clinical Subject Matter Expert (SME)for Medicare Part C and Part D program integrity activities.
  • Leads all phases of program integrity audits, reviewing pharmacy-related records and audit materials for compliance.
  • Develops regulatory language, briefings, and presentations for stakeholders to collaborate on fraud, waste, and abuse prevention and detection.
  • Mentors staff and represents CPI and CMS at internal and external trainings, meetings, and conferences.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the GS-14 grade level, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector. Qualifying professional pharmacy experience may involve, but is not limited to:
  • Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects;
  • Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes for patients in hospitals or managed care organizations;
  • Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program;
  • Planning, monitoring and evaluating medication programs or regimens;
  • Establishing medication-handling procedures for the storage and preservation of medications;
  • Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries; and/or
  • Maintaining all medication records required by law.
Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.

Medical Requirements: You must be able to distinguish basic colors.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: To be eligible, current Federal employees must have served at least 52 weeks (one year) at the next lower grade level from the position/grade level(s) to which they are applying.

Education

Education Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, you must have the following educational requirements:
  • A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. TRANSCRIPTS are required to verify satisfactory completion of the educational requirement listed above. License Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, you must possess the license/registration listed below:
  • Licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Proof of license/registration MUST be submitted at time of application. Failure to submit proof of license/registration at the time of application WILL result in an ineligible rating.
