Title: Specialty Pharmacist (Contract) Duration: 3 months (with potential for long-term LOA coverage) Location: San Francisco, CA 94114 Position Summary
We are seeking a licensed Specialty Pharmacist to provide coverage for a leave of absence, with an initial 3-month assignment and the potential for extension. This safety-sensitive role is responsible for dispensing prescriptions, coordinating clinical services for specialty medications, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.
The pharmacist will interpret and process prescriptions, perform pharmaceutical compounding, dispense medications, and communicate with patients and providers via phone and mail. The role also includes resolving prescription orders through the External Adjudication (EA) queue while ensuring compliance with pharmacy regulations and quality standards. Key Responsibilities
Dispense specialty medications accurately and efficiently.
Review patient profiles for allergies, drug interactions, sensitivities, and appropriate medication usage.
Determine when prescriptions require clarification from physicians or referral for therapeutic intervention.
Enter prescription information into the pharmacy system.
Perform prescription translation and pharmaceutical compounding as required.
Conduct final quality assurance checks on all prescriptions before dispensing.
Respond to patient medication questions and provide customer support.
Contact physicians to resolve prescription issues and obtain clarifications.
Process and resolve orders through the External Adjudication (EA) queue.
Maintain compliance with quality assurance procedures, controlled substance regulations, and hazardous drug disposal policies.
Collaborate with pharmacists, technicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective patient care.
Required Qualifications
Active pharmacist license in good standing in the applicable state.
Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).
Minimum of 2 years of pharmacist experience.
High School Diploma or GED.
Basic computer proficiency.
Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and attention-to-detail skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous retail or specialty pharmacy experience.
Home infusion therapy experience.
At least one year of retail pharmacy experience.
