Your Role
The Clinical Programs team within Pharmacy Services oversees and is responsible for the Blue Shield of California Residency Program offering a series of scheduled rotations under the preceptorship of licensed pharmacists to provide a wide range of learning experiences in various aspects of managed care pharmacy. The Pharmacy Resident will report to the Senior Director of Clinical Pharmacy Program. In this role you will attain one year of post-graduate training in managed care pharmacy in a health plan setting and directly contribute to the organization's delivery of high-quality care, management of pharmacy benefits and claims, member and provider engagement strategies, and drug quality improvement programs.
Your Knowledge and Experience
Completion of a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at an accredited pharmacy school
Requires a letter of intent describing one's motivation for applying to this residency program
Requires a curriculum vitae
Requires an official academic transcript from an accredited school of pharmacy showing completion/candidacy of a Doctor of Pharmacy degree
Requires three letters of recommendation
Requires completion of the interview process
California Registered Pharmacist (RPH) licensure with active status, within 4 months of hire
Hybrid
This role requires employees to be in-office based on our hybrid workplace model, balancing purposeful in-person collaboration with flexibility. For most teams, this means coming into the office two days each week.
Your Work
In this role, you will:
Perform direct patient care activities and conduct provider outreach to support Medicare Star programs, as well as Commercial and Medi-Cal quality initiatives.
Review and evaluate the current literature and respond to drug information related questions. Develop therapeutic drug evaluations and medication policies to present at Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee meetings.
Review prior authorization requests and analyze drug information literature to make evidence-based clinical decisions.
Participate in formulary strategy and drug/drug class evaluations, make formulary coverage recommendations, and assess impact.
Understand pharmacy networks, rebates, benefits, claims, and compliance.
Perform or contribute to client presentations, requests for proposals from potential clients and other ad hoc client inquiries.
Precept APPE students, coordinate learning experiences and evaluations, and promote professional development.
Complete a customized residency project suitable for presentation and publication.
