Job Description:

The Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Specialist provides pharmaceutical care services in assigned clinic or hospital areas. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and modifying patient pharmacotherapies to ensure that medication is indicated, effective, and safe. The specialist will participate in collaborative practice and/or protocol-driven practice as appropriate, and complete documentation for pharmacist activities. The specialist will participate in and support research activities of the department and the clinic areas served as well as support the continuous improvement, patient safety, and accreditation programs of the department and institution. Additional responsibilities and teaching experiences will vary as well as involvement in special projects and committees. The individual must display strong initiative, leadership, independence, collaborative, and communication skills.

Education

  • Required: Graduation from an ACPE Accredited School of Pharmacy with a B.S. or Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
  • Preferred: Completion of a minimum of one year (PGY1) of pharmacy residency training or three years work experience in the outpatient setting.
  • Preferred: Completion of a PGY2 second-year specialty residency in Ambulatory Care.

Experience

  • Preferred: Three years’ work experience in the outpatient setting if no pharmacy residency training

Skills

  • Proficiency with direct patient care
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with other departments
  • Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, other computer software, copiers, fax machines and other office equipment as necessary.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Required: Missouri Pharmacist license or eligible for licensure and obtain with 90 days of hire.
  • Required: MTM/MTS certification
