Job Description

Bring your clinical judgment, patient counseling expertise, and problem-solving skills to a pharmacist role where timely guidance can directly improve medication safety, understanding, and continuity of care.

Join the expanding UVA Specialty Pharmacy Call Center and Specialty Home Delivery team as a trusted clinical resource for patients and pharmacy technicians. This hybrid opportunity combines meaningful patient interaction with operational pharmacy practice, offering greater schedule predictability, professional autonomy, and the opportunity to help shape a growing service line.

The Role

As a Pharmacist supporting the UVA Specialty Pharmacy Call Center, you will be the primary escalation resource for technicians assisting specialty pharmacy and home delivery patients. Your day will center on real-time clinical support, clear communication, and thoughtful resolution of medication-related concerns in a fast-paced, phone-based environment.

You will work primarily Monday through Friday, generally from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Following successful completion of approximately 13 weeks of onsite training and competency monitoring, you may transition to a hybrid schedule with an expected onsite presence of approximately five days per month. A Saturday rotation is anticipated no more than once per month, with a compensatory day off, along with approximately one to two holiday shifts each year. All required equipment is provided.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide pharmacist consultations, medication counseling, and patient education by phone.

  • Respond to questions about medication use, administration, side effects, and treatment expectations.

  • Evaluate medication orders for safety, efficacy, appropriateness, and accuracy.

  • Serve as the clinical escalation point for technicians managing complex patient situations.

  • Resolve medication-related problems and coordinate pharmacy-to-pharmacy transfers.

  • Perform medication review and verification activities that support safe, efficient pharmacy operations.

  • Make outbound follow-up calls when additional pharmacist support is needed.

  • Support Specialty Home Delivery and central fill operations through training, collaboration, and operational assistance.

  • Maintain strong accessibility and responsiveness through Teams and other communication platforms while working remotely.

  • Participate in team meetings, cross-training, process improvement, and evolving departmental projects.

Success here requires a pharmacist who communicates clearly, remains composed during challenging conversations, and can translate complex medication information into practical guidance. Whether your experience comes from retail, hospital, health system, or specialty pharmacy practice, this role offers the opportunity to apply your strengths in a setting that values patient-centered communication, sound clinical judgment, teamwork, and independence.
