Summary
Pharmacy Assistant performs limited technical work performing non-professional duties in the pharmacy of a county hospital. Employees of this classification perform a variety of selected assignments in an inpatient or outpatient pharmacy, following a minimal in-service training period. Assists with storage, inventory, packaging and distribution of drugs and pharmaceutical supplies. Follows standardized procedures for receiving, storing, inventorying, packaging and distributing pharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical supplies and non-legend drugs.
Responsibilities
- Receives, unpacks, and stores supplies.
- Checks contents against invoice.
- Operates labeling machine; repackages pharmaceuticals into dispensing containers for inpatient and outpatient use.
- Maintains inventory control of labels, bottles and drugs scheduled for repackaging.
- Repackages large bulk liquids such as alcohol, soaps and antiseptic solutions into smaller containers for hospital distribution.
- Fills free floor-charge drug items for hospital nursing stations; delivers to hospital stations pharmaceuticals such as narcotics, explosives, caustic alkaline and acid, inflammables and other items requiring specialized care and handling.
- Cleans and washes specialized pharmaceutical, chemical, laboratory glassware and associated equipment.
- Inventories pharmaceuticals and related equipment and supplies; maintains pharmacy working areas in a clean and orderly condition.

- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
- Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education
- High School diploma is required.
Skill
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.

- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.

Credentials
- Valid license or certification is preferred.
