In Conjunction with the Pharmacy Buyer II, under the leadership of the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Buyer I maintains appropriate levels of medications and pharmaceutical supplies. Assures necessary storage requirements are met at all times and ensures the pharmacy inventory is kept up to date.

 

***Must be Licensed as a New Jersey Refistered Pharmacy Technician****.

Responsibilities:

A day in the life of a Pharmacy Buyer I at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

1. Process unused medications returned to the pharmacy.
2.  In conjunction with Buyer II, order and maintain proper pharmacy supplies

3. Organize and maintain appropriate amounts of routinely stocked drugs and supplies.
4. Place orders daily as needed to ensure proper levels of inventory to meet patient needs.
5. Process received medications according to the established pharmacy policies and procedures.
6. Monitor stock to ensure proper inventory levels are maintained at all times.
7. Provide staff with a daily backorder listing; under the guidance of the clinical team devise alternate therapies when medications are not available.
8. Separate out all medications and supplies that are defective, outdated or otherwise unusable to assure they are not released.
9. Monitor for and report any suspicion of medication or product diversion or theft.
10. Coordinate and maintain appropriate documentation of all products borrowed or loaned to other pharmacies within the HMH network. Reconcile replacements at the end of each month.
11. Assist in monthly physical inventory.
12. Complete other tasks and duties as assigned by pharmacy leadership.

Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
2. Typing and computer skills to utilize PC applications for purchasing.
3. Integrity to work with Controlled Substances and items which could be diverted.

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. Prior experience with purchasing in health care (i.e. medication, DME)
2. Understanding of drug products; e.g. generic/brand names or critical nature of medication needs.
