SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Cashier supports the HOPES mission by providing accurate, efficient, and patient-centered front-end pharmacy services that ensure safe, timely access to medications. This role contributes to a seamless patient experience while upholding regulatory, URAC, and 340B compliance standards to promote quality care and improved health outcomes.

MINIMUM/PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Strong customer service and communication skills required.
Ability to accurately handle cash and operate point-of-sale systems required.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle protected health information required.
Experience working in a healthcare or retail environment preferred.
Knowledge of pharmacy workflows or preferred.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
The Pharmacy Cashier supports daily pharmacy operations by managing point-of-sale transactions, coordinating prescription pick-up, and maintaining accurate records to ensure safe and efficient medication access. This role enhances the patient experience while supporting compliance with URAC standards and 340B program workflows through accurate service delivery and effective communication.
Greet and assist patients and caregivers in person and by phone in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
Answer incoming calls and appropriately route refill requests, questions, and issues.
Provide basic education on pharmacy services, processes, and expectations.
Maintain professional, respectful interactions and assist in resolving patient concerns or service issues.
Verify patient identity using two identifiers prior to prescription pick-up.
Ensure prescriptions are released to the correct patient and escalate discrepancies immediately.
Notify pharmacist of counseling needs or patient refusal of counseling.
Accurately process point-of-sale (POS) transactions (cash, credit, debit, and check).
Maintain accurate cash drawer balances and reconcile discrepancies.
