Position Pharmacy Intern Category Pharmacy Rate of Pay $18.00-$19.00 per hour Description
Position Summary
Bluegrass Community Health Center is seeking a Pharmacy Intern to join our pharmacy team. This position provides pharmacy students with the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world healthcare setting while developing clinical, operational, and professional skills under the supervision of licensed pharmacists. The Pharmacy Intern will support patient care, medication dispensing, and daily pharmacy operations while gaining valuable hands-on experience in community health pharmacy practice.
What You'll Do
- Assist with prescription processing, including filling, labeling, and preparing medications accurately and efficiently.
- Count medications and support dispensing activities in compliance with pharmacy regulations and policies.
- Interact with patients by answering questions and providing basic medication education under pharmacist supervision.
- Conduct medication history interviews and assist with patient care activities as appropriate.
- Communicate with healthcare providers regarding refill requests, prescription clarifications, therapeutic substitutions, and prescription transfers.
- Assist with inventory management, including stocking medications, monitoring expiration dates, processing returns, and maintaining organized inventory.
- Maintain accurate patient records, prescription files, and medication documentation.
- Support vaccination services, customer service initiatives, and other pharmacy operations as assigned.
- Contribute to a positive patient experience through compassionate and professional service.
- Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned to support effective clinic and pharmacy operations.
Qualifications
Required:
- Current enrollment in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.
- Active Pharmacy Intern license or eligibility to obtain licensure.
- Knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Understanding of HIPAA requirements and patient confidentiality standards.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous pharmacy experience in a retail, hospital, or community health setting.
- Experience working with pharmacy management software and electronic health records.
