The Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Manager works closely with the Ambulatory Care Assistant Chief to establish and execute strategy for the Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Primary Care Services, Anticoagulation, and Population Health. This includes identifying areas of improvement, opportunities for development of new innovative services, mitigation of emerging threats, ensuring regulatory compliance and operational effectiveness/efficiency. The Ambulatory Manager of Primary Care is well versed in all applicable accrediting agency requirements including but not limited to The Joint Commission, Board ofPharmacy, and other accreditations as needed. This manager serves as the primary leader who oversees all Primary Care Services. These include but are not limited to pharmacists in clinic, technicians supporting the pharmacists and the financial assistance program (including prescription capture programs) and other programs as they arise. This Manager oversees the team's participation in population health initiatives relevant to Primary Care at UC Davis and UCOP. This leader works with the Assistant Chief to drive strategy for primary care services and help grow the pharmacy enterprise. This leader also works closely with the Assistant Chief of Specialty and the Managers of outpatient retail to help drive revenue and prescription capture. #CA-DS

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position.

  • Current and unrestricted California Pharmacist License. Out of State Pharmacist Eligible to Apply. If out-of-state pharmacist, must obtain and provide CA Pharmacist License within one year of hire date.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent training
  • Management or supervisory experience within ambulatory care, or equivalent leadership experience
  • Completion of Post-Graduate Year One (PGY1) residency
  • Knowledge in Pharmacy practice and industry best practices in optimizing the use of medication to treat patients
  • Ability to stay updated on pharmacy regulations, drug products, and developments in research and design
  • Knowledge of all pharmacy federal and state laws and regulations
  • Leadership skills in employee supervision and HR administration to effectively lead and motivate others
  • Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment
  • Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility, and ability to anticipate and effectively handle change
  • Customer service orientation to respond quickly and with empathy to patient issues
  • Ability to organize operations in an efficient and effective manner through improving workflow systems and protocols

Preferred Qualifications
  • Board Certification [e.g., Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS), Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP)] or equivalent LEAN Certifications
  • Master's degree [Master of Science (MS) in related area, Master of Health Administration (MHA), or Master of Business Administration (MBA)] or equivalent
  • Completion of Post-Graduate Year Two (PGY2) residency
  • Completion of American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) Pharmacy Leadership Academy (PLA)
  • Ambulatory clinical pharmacy experience
  • Primary care experience
  • Strategic planning experience
  • Knowledge of relevant Pharmacy Department, medical center, and UC policies and protocols including medicine storage, safety, and patient privacy and treatment

Department Overview

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. This position is "exempt" and on occasion, the employee may have to work longer than the scheduled shift. Employee may have routine on-call assignment in which availability by pager is required. The position is mostly days, but could include evening shifts, night, shift, and rotating weekend shifts as applicable.
