Department Overview:

Reporting to the director of pharmacy services, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operational

management of pharmacy services in relation to inpatient pharmacy. Responsibilities include, but are not

limited to, employee supervision; education and training of staff; program development; management of

business and professional activities of the pharmacy; quality assessment and process improvement; and

maintenance of practice standards, customer service, compliance with accreditation standards and applicable

laws and regulations; coordination of pharmacy services with other hospital departments, and teaching of

pharmacy interns and residents, and staffing.

Function/Duties of Position:
  • Operations Management: Manages the operations in inpatient pharmacy in a cost-effective manner, directing day-to-day operations (24/7), delegating responsibility and authority for providing services; redesigns and develops processes and programs for maximum safety and efficiency; primary support of automation/technology for inpatient pharmacy services; problem-solves issues identified by staff and internal/external customers; maintains and updates policies and procedures. 
  • Monitoring and coordinating pharmacy services for non-sterile centralized pharmacy services 
  • Human resources (supervision of staff): Recruits, hires, trains, develops, and supervises assigned staff, develops performance standards, conducts performance appraisal; and recommends salary increases consistent with Hospital policy and procedures. 
  • Leadership: Representative of pharmacy leadership as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team representing pharmacy perspectives.
  • Other Duties as Assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • BS-Pharm or PharmD, and advanced degree or equivalent experience and 
  • PGY2 residency, PGY1 with 2 years of relevant leadership/supervisor experience, or
  • 5 years of relevant leadership/supervisor experience.
  • Licensure in the state of OR
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS, MBA, MHA
Additional Details:

The incumbent will spend a significant amount of time at a computer terminal. The position must deal with

situations on a daily basis with a high degree of intensity. In addition, within the health care setting there can

be significant lack of control over the work pace, with frequent interruptions (work is often dictated by

external factors) that may lead to mental fatigue or stress
