Job Summary: Assist the pharmacist in collecting, organizing, and evaluating information for patient care, medication use review, and departmental management.. Assist with the preparation and distribution of medications. Purchase pharmaceuticals, devices and supplies. Control the inventory of medications, equipment, and devices. Assist the pharmacist in monitoring the practice site for compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and professional standards. Maintain pharmacy equipment and facilities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Procures and distributes medications based on established policies, procedure and protocols.
  • Accurately engages in mixing of compounded sterile and nonsterile products.
  • Accurately replenishes, loads and unloads medications in Pyxis units.
  • Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.
  • Answers phone calls, triaging what requires pharmacist intervention.
  • Exchanges & refills crash carts in a timely manner
  • Maintains assigned outdate section(s) in Pharmacy Department.
  • Ensures accuracy of patient billing information.
  • Controlled substance distribution and record keeping is accurate and consistent with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains a satisfactory attendance record with consistent punctuality.
  • Provides age-appropriate and population specific care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to newborns, pediatric and adult populations.
  • Actively assimilates patient safety philosophy into daily activities.
  • Acts to minimize risk to the patient, hospital, fellow employees and self.
  • Completes any additional tasks as assigned by pharmacists or lead technician.

Education Requirements and Other Requirements:

Education Level: Graduation or attendance in high school is preferred.

Certification/Licensure: Illinois pharmacy technician license is required. Technician certification required within 2 years of original technician licensure for technicians licensed on or after January 1, 2008.

Experience Requirements: At least 3 months is preferred.
