Location: Plainsboro, NJ

Schedule: 12pm - 8:30pm + every 3rd Sunday

Summary:

  • A member of the pharmacy department support staff who assists in the provision of pharmacy services as authorized by the NJ State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations. Responsible for assisting pharmacy operations management focusing on technician workflow and serving as a technical advisor to the pharmacy staff, nursing, and providers. In addition, appropriately maintains medication inventory and supports the pharmacy purchaser in preparing orders, ensuring accurate billing and shipment of orders, as well as reconciling, unpacking and restocking products into pharmacy automation systems. This individual utilizes system reports to monitor regulatory compliance (e.g. resolution of controlled substance discrepancies, unit inspections) and optimizes the inventory quantities (e.g. inventory cycle counts, minimize incidence of medication stock outs). Conducts audits on a regular basis and provides analyzed reports to management to enhance quality of pharmacy services.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs Performance Improvement (PI) activities, including managing Pharmacy dashboard, monthly data collection for various audits. Prepares and analyzes a variety of standard and customized management reports. Identifies trends and areas for improvement to pharmacy management.

  • Monitor narcotic vault activity and promptly report any issue to the pharmacy management.

  • Responsible for monitoring appropriate discrepancies resolution, ensuring pharmacy discrepancies are resolved within a timely manner and analyzing monitoring reports.

  • In the narcotic vault, performs receiving task of CDS, as appropriate.

  • Conducts audits, including automated dispensing system audits (e.g. CDS discrepancies, and waste activities) to ensure that the respective practice standards are being followed.

  • Partner with medication safety pharmacist to conduct overrides audits.

  • Prepares data for discussion at weekly Inventory Management meetings. Helps develop and implement operational plans to prevent/manage medication shortages and their resultant impact to patient care.

  • Manages all pharmacy medication recalls and completes monthly report submissions. Maintains records of medication recalls for FDA including but not limited to:

  • Maintain electronic system for recall

  • Report recalls to Environment of Care (EOM) monthly

  • Assesses, prepares, implements, and manages new automation systems to continually enhance efficiency and decrease potential for error, with an intense focus on patient safety.

  • Prepares and maintains training materials for pharmacy technology and data systems. Trains staff and end users of pharmacy information and dispensing technology systems. Assesses the need of further education.

  • Coordinates with information systems staff to resolve issues and/or re-design processing, as needed.

  • Demonstrates and oversees the proper and accurate operation and maintenance of all automated dispensing devices. Monitor and optimize inventory of automated dispensing devices through daily and monthly reports. Assists users with issues, as needed.

  • Assists the pharmacy purchaser with medication inventory, ordering of medications, and billing.

  • Coordinates meetings with pharmacy technicians, as appropriate. Identify opportunities for optimizing the technician workflow to pharmacy management.

  • Facilitate product turnover to minimize waste.

  • Assist with adjustments to staff assignments and workflow in response to staff call outs.

  • Proposes formulary deletions based on data regarding usage trends to facilitate cost saving initiatives.

Credentials:

  • Lic-Pharmacy Technician Reg (Required)
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician - PTCB (Required)
  • Current National "Certification for Pharmacy Technicians" (Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification required prior to employment. It is the responsibility of the employee to maintain this certification throughout their employment with the PMPH Pharmacy Department.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Two to four years related work experience.

Salary Range:

$23.10 - $36.83/Hourly
