The Pharmacy Technician Opportunity:

The Pharmacy Technician supports safe, accurate, and timely medication preparation and distribution within a closed-door pharmacy environment serving mental health programs, inpatient and outpatient services, nursing homes, crisis units, and North Central Health Care employees. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, this role performs prescription order entry, medication preparation, automated dispensing support, inventory management, and medication delivery while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state, and regulatory standards.

 

What You’ll Get:

  • The starting pay range for this role is $19.40 - $21.13 based on education and experience.
  • This job is a full-time, in person position, working Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm.

What You Bring:

 

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Wisconsin (upon hire)

 

Preferred

  • One or more years of pharmacy technician or related healthcare experience
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT)
  • Experience working in a retail hospital, long-term care, or behavioral health pharmacy setting

What a Pharmacy Technician does at NCHC:

  • Accurately enter, process, and update new and refill prescription orders using pharmacy systems
  • Review prescriptions for completeness and resolve billing or insurance issues
  • Initiate and submit prior authorizations and non-formulary requests in accordance with policy
  • Communicate with providers, nursing staff, insurance carriers, and patients to clarify orders and refills
  • Prepare, count, label, package, and unit-dose medications accurately and efficiently
  • Verify National Drug Codes (NDCs), expiration dates, and quantities
  • Assist patients and staff at pharmacy counters, including payment processing when applicable
  • Support Pyxis and other medication dispensing systems, including restocking and reconciliation
  • Operate and maintain pharmacy automation equipment.
  • Load canisters, calibrate equipment, correct packaging errors, and perform quality control checks
  • Receive, unpack, verify, and store medications and supplies
  • Monitor inventory levels, expiration dates, and controlled substances
  • Replace contingency and emergency medications across multiple units
  • Process medication returns, credits, destructions, and restocking per policy
  • Deliver medications and medication carts to nursing homes, hospital units, and crisis programs
  • Retrieve discontinued or discharged medications for proper credit or disposal
  • Maintain accurate delivery logs, proof-of-use documentation, and controlled substance records
  • File and archive prescription and delivery documentation in accordance with retention standards
  • Maintain clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy workspaces
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
