Pharmacy Technician I works under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists providing a high level of assistance in compounding (sterile and non-sterile preparations), distribution and dispensing of medication and other pharmaceutical related supplies.

Responsibilities
• Replenishes automated drug distribution machines following a standard procedure established by policy. • Troubleshoots for problems related to the operation of the automated drug distribution machines. • Forwards concerns that can not be corrected to the appropriate individual in a timely manner. • Prepares sterile products (add-a-vials, syringes, IV Admixtures, chemotherapy, large volume parenteral) following standard procedures established by policy and under the supervision, and check of a licensed pharmacist. • Assures that all quality related procedures are followed. • Inputs information into the Hospitals inpatient pharmacy clinical information management system as requested. • For areas not served by point of care automated dispensing equipment, assures that required medications and supplies are dispensed following established procedures. • Performs extemporaneously compounding and prepackaging under the guidelines of pharmacy policy, and under the supervision, and check of a licensed pharmacist. • Orders and receives medication inventory; rotates stock and checks expiration dates routinely. • Follows all established procedures to assure the quality and security of the medication assets. • Maintains assigned area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner. • Assembles, tabulates and analyzes quality improvement data when requested. • Assists in reports and survey tabulation when requested. • Performs monthly patient care center reviews, as assigned. • Enters data into the computer system specialized to that activity. • Attends appropriate orientation, continuing education, and training courses to maintain competency in job skills and knowledge. • Participates in required educational programs, including HIS, safety, infection control, AIDS awareness, age-related special needs and behaviors, etc. • Assures a pharmacist checks each preparation prior to it being dispensed. • Consults with a pharmacist or supervisor when necessary and as required by Florida Statutes, when making exceptions to a policy that would benefit the patient. • Refers clinical questions to a pharmacist. • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education
High School diploma is required.

Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the clinical area.
Credentials
Must hold a Registered Pharmacy Technician license (RPT) and be CPHT certified or hold a Pharmacist Intern license (PSI).
