PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This position is for a Registered/Licensed Pharmacy Technician with an active license from the Pennsylvania Board of Pharmac y. The role is based in a closed-door veterinary pharmacy environment and operates Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with no weekends.
  • Enters prescriptions into dispensing system
  • Retrieves and labels prescription drug products.
  • Totes prescription orders following pharmacist verification in preparation of product shipment.
  • Maintains pharmacy inventory by organizing, restocking medications and pharmacy supplies in designated locations.
  • Ensures work environment is kept tidy in accordance with pharmacy standards.
  • Maintains licensure necessary for employment in accordance with state and federal requirements.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and ascending and descending stairs as a requirement to manage and process prescription orders.
  • Effectively communicates with customers.
  • May access, input, and retrieve information from pharmacy computers.
  • Assists pharmacist with the retrieval of information to perform patient consultations.
  • Refers veterinarian and customer medical inquiries to the pharmacist.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the layout of the pharmacy/building and location of drug products.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic warehouse processes for safety and order filling.
  • Exhibits proficiency when in use of RF scanner to pick products and complete associated tasks in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates correct identification of MOT (Mode of Transportation) of orders and appropriate sorting of pick tickets based on MOT.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of navigating bin locations within the warehouse.
  • Correctly stages orders on the pharmacy countertop.
  • Understands the process for matching processed summary sheets with picked orders.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate labeling technique and sets orders in organized fashion for pharmacist final verification.
  • Understands how to determine an order has been checked by a pharmacist.
  • Can correctly assess MOT to complete the toting process.
  • Able to demonstrate where to deliver toted orders for packing and shipping based on MOT.
  • Able to demonstrate, identify and separate pharmacy prescription only orders from pharmacy prescription/warehouse OTC combined orders – Understands the process for combining the orders.
  • Able to demonstrate how to answer the intercom phone system, identify self as a pharmacy technician, transfer a call, and take a call on hold.
  • Exhibits scheduling availability consistent with the needs of the business, which may include working beyond scheduled hours to ensure all orders are completed daily.
  • May guide, work closely with, and line balance other pharmacy technicians to optimize workflow.
  • Monitor production demands and inventory levels during the shift to ensure timely fulfillment of orders.
  • Monitors workflow and prioritizes tasks accordingly to ensure orders are processed in alignment with the needs of the business.
  • Works in conjunction with other technicians and pharmacists to resolve workflow issues and product shortages effectively.
  • Required to obtain national certification if residing in a state that requires national pharmacy technician certification by the applicable Board of Pharmacy to maintain active licensure.
  • Obtain forklift certification and demonstrate the ability to retrieve pallet-sized orders if required by the pharmacy operations.
  • Able to demonstrate how to enter and process new orders and refills in the pharmacy dispensing system
  • Understands the process for verifying and interpreting prescriptions and standing orders on file to ensure compliance while performing data entry in pharmacy dispensing system
  • Can process and print a wave in the order management system to maintain optimal workflow and is able to demonstrate how to drop pharmacy orders out of IBS XT or SCALE.
  • Can verify account and order information when needed.
  • Directs pharmacy technician team members to ensure the workflow is properly maintained and resolves order processing issues in accordance with company policy.
  • Supports orientation and training of newly hired pharmacy technicians to facilitate compliance with the approved training program as assigned.
  • Collaborates with the inventory team to enhance efficiency in product retrieval for order processing.
  • Assists with implementing process changes to the workflow.
  • Assists with managing pharmacy prescription files in compliance with state and federal legal requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Additional Job Description:
  • High School diploma or GED completed
  • National Pharmacy Technician certification is required in states where mandated by the Pharmacy Board and preferred in states where it is not mandated
  • Must be unrestricted and either licensed or registered in the resident state as required, OR eligible for participation and completion within six months of hire in an approved employer technician training program to obtain the State Board Pharmacy Technician license to continue employment if applicable
  • One or more years of related pharmacy experience is an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
