    POSITION:                           PHARMACY TECHNICIANDEPARTMENT:                  PHARMACYFLSA STATUS:                    NON-EXEMPTPlease read this job description carefully to ensure that you understand its contents, the job requirements, and expectations before signing this document.JOB SUMMARY: Supports the Pharmacy Department in preparing and dispensing medications, maintaining inventory, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
    • Responsible to the Pharmacy Director
    • Positions Supervised: None
    • Regular contact with all hospital departments and personnel, including physicians, and external pharmacies and vendors.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    1. Assists pharmacist(s) in preparing, labeling, and dispensing medications accurately and efficiently
    2. Process medication orders and enter prescription information into pharmacy systems
    3. Manage medication inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and removing expired drugs
    4. Manage stocking and replenishing medication carts for various hospital departments wile verifying accuracy, monitoring expiration dates, and ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements
    5. Ensure the proper storage and security of medications, including controlled substances
    6. Assist in maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, including medication safety protocols
    7. Maintain accurate patient and medication records in compliance with department policies and procedures and regulatory standards
    8. Provide customer service to patients and hospital staff in a professional manner
    9. All other things as directed by immediate supervisor
    QUALIFICATIONS:Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program is required. Must have an active Pharmacy Technician licensure in the State of Louisiana.Work Experience: One (1) year of pharmacy technician experience is preferredRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

    • Basic computer and data entry skills
    • Organization and time management skills
    • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
    • Knowledge of medication safety and handling procedures
    • Familiarity with pharmacy laws and regulations
    • Basic understanding of pharmacy operations and medication terminology
    Physical Requirements:
    • Prolonged periods of remaining in a stationary position at a desk and working on a computer
    • Frequent use of hands, wrists, and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment
    • Occasionally move about the department and facility campus to access medication storage areas, medication carts, hospital departments, patient care areas, etc.
    • Frequently position self, such as bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, or twisting, while maintaining medication storage, retrieving and handling inventory, reviewing medication expirations, etc. 
    • Ability to communicate information accurately so others will understand
    • Ability to hear and respond to telephone calls, alarms, and normal office conversations
    • Visual acuity sufficient to read medication labels, written communication, and computer screens
    • Frequently move, lift, push, or pull boxes, medication inventory, medication carts, etc. weighing up to 25 pounds for various needs.
