    JOB DESCRIPTION

    TITLE: Pharmacy Technician, Retail JOB OVERVIEW: The Retail Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting the pharmacists in their duties by providing technical assistance in accordance with department policy and Washington State Law. The Retail Pharmacy Technician must maintain close working communication with pharmacists and the retail pharmacy supervisor regarding the various department programs. The Technician helps facilitate departmental and hospital programs being carried out in accordance with regulatory agency requirements.

    DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy WORK HOURS: Variable to accommodate Pharmacy needs REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Ambulatory Pharmacy PREREQUISITES;

    High school diploma or equivalency (GED) required.

    Must hold a Pharmacy Technician credential in the State of Washington and be in good standing as of hire date.

    Minimum 1-2 years Pharmacy Technician experience in a retail pharmacy setting, preferred.

    National certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), or equivalent preferred. Certification required for Tech II classification (see addendum).

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    General knowledge of Third Party Insurances.

    Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion, with good public relations and proper patient management skills, and the ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with fellow employees.

    Demonstrate customer service skills.

    Demonstrate listening skills and the ability to effectively analyze and resolve problems.

    Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional demands of a diverse population.

    Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.

    Ability to work with Microsoft Office Programs Epic, Willow Ambulatory, and other pharmacy computer systems.

    Must demonstrate teamwork.

    Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a dynamic work environment.

    UNIQUE PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS. ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Flexible to work various hours to include evening, weekend, and holidays

    Capable of walking and standing for extended periods throughout the work shift. Extensive data entry keyboarding into computer.

    Able to lift from floor to overhead levels and carry/push items weighing up to 40 pounds.

    Help providers and other patient care staff by answering questions and requests or referring inquiries to the pharmacists.

    Maintain a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with policies and procedures, in addition to federal and state rules and regulations.

    Enter prescriptions efficiently and accurately.

    Resolve exceptions and issues in a timely manner.

    Maintain an accurate pharmacy inventory.

    Prepare medications for pharmacists to dispense for patients.

    Responsible for daily billing operations

    Responsible for operating the point of sale system

    Responsible for maintaining basic knowledge of current medications.

    Responsible for making sure that pulling, packaging, ordering, restocking and rotating stock of medications is done daily.

    Address patient and insurance calls regarding pharmacy billing.

    Ability to file prescriptions in an organized manner.

    Demonstrate understanding of how to compound medications.

    Completes additional responsibilities/projects when assigned by manager, coordinators, or pharmacists.
