Responsibilities


The Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for technical clerical and delivery duties for the department as well as with the preparation labeling and distribution of medication under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The technician must demonstrate competency in sterile compounding automated dispensing computer systems (MedKeeper Cerner McKesson) and ability to recognize and prioritize clerical responsibilities including medication labeling billing reports and special processes.


Qualifications


Experience:


+ One year of acute care hospital pharmacy practice experience or a 6-week pharmacytechnician externship in an acute care facility.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of legal restrictions of the activities of non-licensed personnel in hospital pharmacy medical abbreviations pharmaceutical terminology and calculations generic/trade names of medications.

+ Experience in preparation of intravenous admixtures and antineoplastic/chemotherapeutic/hazardous medications.

+ Experience working in a USP 797 clean room is preferred.


Education:


+ Completion of ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician program is preferred.


Licensure:


+ Registration with the California State Board of Pharmacy as a registered technician.


Special Skills:


+ Intravenous therapy preparation demonstrating proper aseptic technique in all areas of IV admixture and responsible for assuring appropriate compounded items are available at all times. LVP and IVPB Anti-neoplastic agents: chemotherapy total/peripheral parenteral nutrition advance training in compounding of extemporaneous products; cream ointments vaginal preparations unit dose tablets and liquids.


Training:


+ One year acute care hospital; California Accredited Pharmacy Technician Program.
