Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician II performs functions related to pharmaceutical preparation and distribution. These functions will be assigned by pharmacists and pharmacy leaders based on the pharmacy workflow to support patient care needs. These tasks may include but are not limited to non-sterile compounding, sterile compounding, hazardous compounding, stocking automated dispensing cabinets, unit dose drug preparation, delivering medications to patient care areas, checking medication storage areas for outdates, billing, and other duties as assigned. 

The Pharmacy Technician II has a breadth of skills to allow rotation through 4 or more of these areas, as defined by facility needs: 

  • Main Pharmacy, Pyxis, CII Safe, Sterile Compounding, Non Sterile compounding, Hazardous Compounding, and Controlled Substance Tech duties.

The individual is engaged in the pharmacy department’s processes through participation in training and onboarding of new hires, participating in department projects as assigned, and participating on a department or hospital committee. Participation with professional associations is preferred but not required.

What qualifications you will need:

  • One year of Pharmacy Technician I (or 3 years of previous relevant experience) is required; inpatient experience strongly preferred
  • Technician license/certification with the applicable state Board of Pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT, ExCPT, or national equivalent accredited by NCCA) is required. ASHP certificates are preferred.
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • As defined in competencies; ability to work accurately with attention to detail. Possesses communication, teamwork, customer service, computer skills, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Pharmacy Technicians work under the direct supervision of pharmacists and pharmacy leadership, incompliance with applicable policies, law, regulations, practices and procedures prescribed by his/her immediate supervisor.
  • Orientation period: four to six weeks
