Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team and support pharmacy operations with a primary focus on sterile compounding. This role plays a critical part in the accurate preparation of medications and the maintenance of safe, compliant pharmacy practices. The ideal candidate will develop and maintain expertise in pharmacy operations to ensure high-quality service delivery and patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer inquiries and provide non-clinical information regarding compounded medication ingredients, dosage forms, and storage requirements
  • Perform sterile compounding of IV medications, injections, and solutions using aseptic techniques
  • Answer questions and provide basic information to pharmacy customers regarding compound ingredients, dosage, and storage of compounded medications.
  • Provide information to patients about the readiness of compounds, mailing/delivery policies & procedures, and billing & insurance information.
  • Assist pharmacists by preparing and dispensing medication, verifying written prescriptions, orders, or refill requests for completeness and accuracy.
  • Mix pharmaceutical preparations, fill prescriptions, and appropriately label containers.
  • Establish and maintain patient profiles and records, ensuring accurate prescription entry and appropriate billing to insurance.
  • Assist with management of pharmacy inventory, including medications, compounding ingredients, labels, supplies, and materials
  • Help maintain the pharmacy inventory, including labels, medication, compounding ingredients, and supplies.
  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain equipment, glassware, and work areas in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure proper storage and security conditions for medications and ingredients.
  • Effectively compound injections and infusions, irrigations for internal body cavities, ophthalmic dosage forms, aqueous preparations for pulmonary inhalation, baths and soaks for live organs and tissues, and implants.
  • Follow established SOPs, assist with formulation development and data entry, and demonstrate competence in mathematical calculations.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of major compounding topics, including infusions, nutritional support, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), veterinary medicine, pain management, and mitochondrial disorders.
  • May attend external professional meetings and/or training and interact professionally with patients, staff, and external associates.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proficiency in pharmacy operations and sterile compounding.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in data entry and order entry.
  • Knowledge of compound ingredients and compounded medication dosage.
  • Current State pharmacy technician license.
  • 1+ years of sterile compounding/IV/Infusion pharmacy technician experience

Additional Skills

  • High School diploma or equivalent certificate.
  • Required Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Work Environment

The work environment involves a dynamic pharmacy setting where the team collaborates to provide high-quality pharmaceutical services. Staff is expected to adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for cleanliness and maintenance of equipment and work areas. The role may involve attending professional meetings and training sessions to stay updated with the latest in pharmacy practices. Team members collaborate closely with pharmacists and other pharmacy staff, using pharmacy software for data entry, order processing, and insurance billing. The environment supports professional growth through training and occasional external professional meetings. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
