The Pharmacy Technician Intake plays a key role in a specialty pharmacy environment by accurately creating and maintaining patient and provider profiles, verifying prescription information, and supporting smooth referral processing. This position handles moderately complex assignments that require sound judgment, attention to detail, and clear communication with healthcare providers to ensure patients receive timely and accurate service.

Responsibilities
  • Work on moderately complex intake and verification assignments, using sound judgment to resolve problems and make routine recommendations.
  • Review the contents of each referral to confirm that all required information is complete, accurate, and suitable for further processing.
  • Create patient profiles from scanned or faxed images by accurately entering patient and provider information into the system so downstream teams can successfully serve the patient.
  • Conduct an initial check of prescriptions to ensure clinical accuracy and completeness prior to processing.
  • Communicate with providers regarding referral status, prescription clarifications, missing information, and patient concerns to ensure all data is collected and accurate before it moves to other teams.
  • Update concise and clear progress notes so other roles within the workflow can quickly assess the status of each referral.
  • Enter new provider information, including National Provider Identifier (NPI), accurately into the system to support reporting and analytics activities.
  • Perform high-volume, accurate data entry related to pharmacy intake, referrals, and provider information.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues in a call center setting to support patient access to medications and personalized care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall pharmacy operations and patient service.
Essential Skills
  • Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) national certification in good standing, without restrictions.
  • Active pharmacy technician registration with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy (NCBOP).
  • Prior experience working in a pharmacy setting.
  • 2+ years of pharmacy operations experience (preferred).
  • Experience in a call center or high-volume verification environment.
  • Strong data entry skills with a focus on accuracy and speed.
  • Competence in basic computer skills and use of pharmacy-related software systems.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple referrals and tasks.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with people across different teams.
  • Conscientious, detail-oriented approach to reviewing and entering clinical and referral information.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing workflows, schedules, and project needs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Healthcare experience (preferred).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in specialty pharmacy operations or medication access services.
  • Familiarity with National Provider Identifier (NPI) and provider data management.
  • Comfort communicating with providers over the phone to clarify prescriptions and referral details.
  • Ability to document clear and concise progress notes for use by multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills when resolving incomplete or unclear referral information.
  • Commitment to delivering personalized, patient-centered service through accurate intake and verification.
  • Willingness to transition between onsite and hybrid work schedules as business needs evolve.
Work Environment

This role is based in a call center-style office environment within a large, rapidly growing specialty pharmacy focused on simplifying medication access and delivering personalized care. Work is conducted entirely over the phone and via electronic systems, with no direct in-person patient contact. The pharmacy operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST, and is closed on weekends and major holidays. During the reverification period, the schedule is onsite Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; after the reverification project, schedules may shift to 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the potential for a hybrid onsite/remote arrangement for permanent staff. The environment emphasizes accurate data entry, phone-based communication with providers, and collaboration with colleagues in a professional office setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Cary, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
