Job Title: Pharmacy TechnicianJob Description

This Pharmacy Technician role supports a busy pharmacy operation by accurately preparing prescriptions for final verification by a pharmacist and ensuring medications are handled, labeled, and stored according to established procedures and regulatory requirements. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with every other weekend required from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Fill daily drug orders accurately and efficiently in a timely manner under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Pick, label, scan, and prepare finished prescriptions for final verification by a pharmacist.
  • Assist in processing returned drugs and recycle or dispose of medications according to established procedures.
  • Prepack frequently ordered medications, label them correctly, and store them as needed during low-volume times.
  • Manually package materials and products to support pharmacy operations.
  • Pull and pick medications from shelving and other medication storage areas, including prepack racks.
  • Apply labels to blister cards and scan products to ensure accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Alert the pharmacist on duty about any medication or product that does not scan properly or appears inaccurate.
  • Maintain designated workstation areas in a clean and organized manner and replenish all stock supplies as needed.
  • Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA, to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Work overtime, holidays, and weekends when required or expected to meet operational needs.
  • Comply with departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall efficiency of the pharmacy.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work at a moderate, consistent speed while maintaining accuracy.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Possess and maintain a clear and active Tennessee Pharmacy Technician License issued by the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy technician certification.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and regulatory guidelines, including HIPAA requirements.
  • Manual dexterity and finger agility to operate office and pharmacy equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, including up to 7 to 10 hours per day.
  • Visual acuity to see and read fine print, with close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to hear normal voice sounds and communicate effectively in a pharmacy environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous pharmacy technician experience.
  • Experience working in a high-volume or fast-paced pharmacy setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in medication handling.
  • Ability to maintain organization and efficiency during both high and low workload periods.
  • Reliability in attendance and schedule adherence, including evenings and every other weekend.
  • Comfort with working extended hours when needed to support pharmacy operations.

Work Environment

This role is based in a pharmacy environment that requires frequent interaction with medications, packaging materials, and standard office and pharmacy equipment. The Pharmacy Technician may sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently throughout the day and may be seated or standing for 7 to 10 hours per shift. The position occasionally requires lifting up to 25 pounds and performing tasks that demand fine finger dexterity, such as operating scanners, labeling equipment, and handling blister cards. Visual demands include the ability to read fine print, distinguish colors, and adjust focus, while auditory demands include the ability to hear normal voice levels. The schedule consists of Monday through Friday shifts from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with every other weekend required from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and overtime, holidays, and extended hours may be necessary. The work environment emphasizes adherence to safety standards, departmental policies, and a defined dress code to ensure a professional and compliant pharmacy setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
