Pharmacy Technician

Entity: Owensboro Health Regional Hospital | Department: Pharmacy Inpatient | Work Hours: 0700-1530 | Weekend Requirements: One | 0.5 FTE

Job Summary:

Provides distributive pharmacy services, assistance, and support for the registered pharmacist.

Job Responsibilities:

• Processes prescriptions and requests for refills from patients.

• Orders and maintains inventory.

• May communicate with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients in person or via telephone as needed.

• Inputs privileged health information into computer system.

• May refill and maintain automated dispensing system.

• May perform IV fluid activities and IV admixture functions including IV chemotherapy.

• May perform service technician functions including operating rooms by distributing and maintaining room trays and anesthesia boxes.

• May perform narcotic technician functions.

• May perform medication reconciliation

• May perform meds-to-beds

Skills and Attributes:

• Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.

• Works under minimal supervision.

• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Position Requirements:

Work Experience

• No experience required upon hire.

Education

• High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

• Pharmacy Tech- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND

• CPhT - Certified Pharmacy Technician through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National HealthCareer Association (NHA) required within 6 months of employment in this position AND

• CPhT-Adv- Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Board of Pharmacy Technician Specialties (BPTS) preferred
