Job Title: Pharmacy Fulfillment Technician
Job Description
This role supports a high-volume, automated prescription fulfillment center by accurately processing patient and prescription data, operating pharmacy automation equipment, and ensuring timely, compliant dispensing and shipment of medications. The Pharmacy Fulfillment Technician works closely with pharmacists, patients, and healthcare providers to resolve prescription and insurance issues while maintaining strict quality, safety, and confidentiality standards.
Responsibilities
- Process new patient registrations using established prescription data entry procedures and guidelines.
- Enter and maintain accurate patient demographics and prescription information in pharmacy processing systems.
- Receive, interpret, and process patient prescription requests and enter refill orders for fulfillment.
- Troubleshoot missing, incomplete, or unclear prescription information and ensure all required data is captured.
- Interpret medical abbreviations and SIG codes accurately to ensure proper directions for use.
- Resolve all data entry-related exceptions by identifying errors, making corrections, and updating records.
- Resolve third-party insurance rejects by reviewing issues, gathering required information, making necessary corrections, and resubmitting claims according to individual plan requirements.
- Handle inbound and outbound calls with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to clarify prescriptions, verify information, and provide status updates.
- Escalate prescription-related questions or clinical concerns to pharmacists for interpretation and resolution.
- Operate automated pharmacy machinery and equipment to support prescription fulfillment workflows.
- Sort medications and transition inventory through various workflow stages with a strong focus on quality control.
- Count, fill, label, package, and prepare prescriptions for shipment using automated and manual processes.
- Operate automated machinery to sort, count, label, pack, and ship prescriptions in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Clean and maintain pharmacy machinery and ensure a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Assist with routine machine upkeep and promptly report equipment issues or malfunctions.
- Identify operational or process issues and communicate them appropriately to-level staff.
- Provide assistance to pharmacists at the primary facility and at other locations as needed, supporting overall pharmacy operations.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations, internal policies, and quality control standards in all aspects of work.
- Use basic computer skills to navigate pharmacy systems, complete documentation, and manage workflow tasks efficiently.
Essential Skills
- Experience in customer service within pharmacy or healthcare settings.
- Demonstrated experience in prescription fulfillment, including counting, labeling, packing, and shipping medications using automated systems.
- Strong data entry accuracy with the ability to enter patient and prescription information precisely into pharmacy systems.
- Proficiency in resolving third-party insurance claim rejects and resubmitting claims for processing.
- Effective verbal communication skills with comfort handling inbound and outbound calls with patients and physicians.
- Basic computer proficiency, including PC operations, internet navigation, and the ability to type at least 25 words per minute.
- Advanced typing skills of 35+ words per minute with good formatting proficiency.
- Ability to interpret medical abbreviations and SIG codes accurately.
- Skill in troubleshooting data entry exceptions and resolving discrepancies in patient or prescription information.
- Experience operating automated pharmacy machinery and working within structured inventory workflows.
- Current or prior pharmacy technician license, certification, or CPHT credential, as applicable to local requirements.
- Familiarity with pharmacy or laboratory environments and related workflows.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA and quality control standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Pharmacy technician license, pharmacy technician certificate, or CPHT certification.
- Previous experience working in a high-volume pharmacy, mail-order pharmacy, or fulfillment environment.
- Experience in laboratory or similar regulated healthcare settings.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of data entry and prescription handling.
- Ability to identify issues quickly, communicate them clearly, and collaborate with staff to resolve them.
- Comfort working with automated systems, machinery, and technology-driven workflows.
- Willingness to learn new systems and processes through provided training and ongoing development opportunities.
- Ability to work overnight and extended shifts in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.

Work Environment
This position is based fully onsite at a micro fulfillment center dedicated to high-volume, automated prescription processing. The facility uses advanced pharmacy automation and prescription fulfillment systems to sort, count, label, pack, and ship medications efficiently and accurately.
The standard shift schedule is Monday to Wednesday from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM,
- plus one additional shift, either Thursday from 4:30 PM to 2:30 AM or Saturday from 2:30 PM to 12:30 AM, based on the contractor's preference.
- During the first week, training takes place Monday through Thursday from 4:30 PM to 12:30 AM.

Team members work around automated machinery and computer systems, following defined workflows and standard operating procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality prescription fulfillment. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
