Pharmacy Technician

Job Description

This Pharmacy Technician role focuses on accurately preparing and packaging medications, supporting prescription order entry, and maintaining pharmacy equipment and inventory in a long-term care setting. You will work closely with the pharmacy team to ensure timely medication cycle delivery, proper storage and security of drug inventory, and high-quality service to patients and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately retrieve, count, measure, prepare, package, and label medications in accordance with prescriptions and facility requirements.
  • Operate and properly maintain pharmacy equipment related to job duties, including the SynMed Ultra system.
  • Assist with prescription filling activities, including order entry and insurance-related tasks, to support efficient pharmacy operations.
  • Work each day to meet established deadlines for medication cycle delivery to facilities and patients.
  • Package prescriptions according to the specific requirements of facilities and individual patients, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in maintaining and managing pharmacy supplies to support continuous and efficient workflow.
  • Clean and assist in the maintenance of equipment and work areas to uphold safety, cleanliness, and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in maintaining proper storage and security conditions for drug inventory to ensure compliance and medication integrity.
  • Support IV compounding activities as needed, following appropriate procedures and safety protocols.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working in a pharmacy setting with responsibilities such as filling prescriptions and order entry.
  • Ability to accurately retrieve, count, measure, prepare, package, and label medications.
  • Proficiency in supporting insurance-related tasks associated with prescription processing.
  • Capability to operate and properly maintain pharmacy equipment, including automated systems such as SynMed Ultra.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all aspects of medication preparation and documentation.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and consistently meet established deadlines for medication cycle delivery.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Active Minnesota Pharmacy Technician registration.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technician training certificate of completion from an accredited institution or college, or a signed certificate of completion from an employer, preferred.
  • Prior experience in a long-term care (LTC) pharmacy environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with IV compounding processes and protocols is an asset.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage multiple prescriptions and tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with pharmacists, colleagues, and facility partners.

Work Environment

This role follows an afternoon to evening schedule, typically from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with rotating weekend coverage approximately every third weekend. The work primarily involves filling prescriptions in a long-term care pharmacy environment, with opportunities to support IV compounding as needed. You will work with automated pharmacy equipment, including the SynMed Ultra system, and operate in a structured, deadline-driven setting focused on accurate medication cycle delivery. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, proper equipment maintenance, and adherence to safe storage and security practices for drug inventory.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
