SALARY RANGE: 56,139.20 - 84,219.20 YEARLY

General Summary:

Under minimal supervision is responsible for oversight of the efficient and accurate provision of medications according to established standards of practice. Coordinates technician-defined activities in the assigned area. Under the direction of the manager, assists in the supervision, scheduling, payroll maintenance, administration of disciplinary action, and evaluation of technical personnel. Participates in recruitment activities and decisions to hire or terminate. Coordinates training; provides training/in-services in specialty areas. Initiates performance improvement activities to increase the scope and quality of pharmacy services and customer service. Performs the duties of a technician when required.

Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates, supervises and evaluates technician activities a. Monitors to ensure the work is completed in a timely and accurate fashion. Assigns activities to available employees to ensure that all requirements are completed on schedule. In cooperation with Pharmacy Leadership, makes decisions regarding daily work flow. b. Ensures assigned personnel follow departmental and hospital policies and procedures to support quality and the safe care of patients i. Monitors employees to ensure compliance with USP <797>. ii. Monitors that all medications are prepared using the correct equipment and technique. iii. Ensures products are labeled according to department standards including hazardous medication iv. Ensures hazardous products are stored and handled according to policy and they are disposed of correctly. c. Ensures assigned staff complete the required documentation for all areas of the pharmacy and takes appropriate corrective action as needed. d. Ensures personnel follow approved procedures related to Automated Distribution Cabinets i. Monitors that ADS inventory is maintained accurately ii. Monitors that all required storage inspections are completed in a timely manner, and provides follow-up as needed

  2. Operations: Participates in key Human Resource Functions as assigned a. Schedules technical staff to ensure that requests for time off are handled equitably and per policy. Responds to requests for time off in the designated time frame b. Completes employee annual reviews in a timely manner per hospital standards c. Conducts disciplinary action for assigned staff up to and including Counseling and Verbal Warnings per Human Resource's guidelines. All such disciplinary actions contacted will be reported to the Operations Manager. d. Arranges coverage of workflow during callouts and times of special circumstances (downtime, weather related events, etc.) e. Maintains payroll/attendance functions for assigned employees. f. Assists with coordination of the recruitment process g. Actively participate in department interviewing process

  3. Coordinates orientation, training and certifications for staff. a. Develops training schedule for technician orientation (communicates to employee, provides feedback during process and communicates concerns to supervisor) b. Assists in training employees on use and maintenance of area equipment c. Coordinate certification and recertification of employees on aseptic technique and hazardous drug handling d. Oversees the completion of all required annual competencies (Fire Safety, HIPAA, etc.) e. Monitors CPhT registration of applicable employees. f. Participates in the development of customer service standards, and monitors the outcomes g. Conducts routine staff meetings and ensures minutes are published h. Coordinates the placement and scheduling of Pharmacy Technician Students as requested.

  4. Promotes a safe culture a. Conducts / delegates pharmacy safety rounds b. Reports medication errors using variance reporting. c. Actively participates in assigned meetings, such as Pharmacy Nursing Council, etc. d. Contributes significantly to the Pharmacy Performance Improvement Program, as highlighted by those areas that comprise the technical component of department functions (minimize waste, hazardous storage, etc.). i. Reviews PI data and identifies areas not meeting established criteria

  5. Ensures that the assigned areas (including equipment) are maintained according to departmental standards.

  6. Performs duties of technician when required. Keeps up with area workload demands and serves as a role model for other support personnel. a. Demonstrates high level of accuracy in work performed b. Maintains proficiency in job skills so that they can easily explain demonstrate skills to others.

  7. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED

  • Credential(s): Certified Pharmacy Technician

  • Experience: Required: Five (5) years pharmacy technician experience or one (1) year of supervisory experience and two years of pharmacy technician experience.

Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience:

  • Education: Associate Degree

  • Credential(s): Certification related to the position, if applicable.

  • Experience: Preferred: Two ( years of management / supervisory experience in a healthcare setting
