Job Title: Pharmacy Technician Trainee - (Onsite)
Job Description
This onsite Pharmacy Technician Trainee role focuses on preparing and distributing prescription medications within a fast-paced pharmacy fulfillment center. You support the safe and accurate preparation of drug products by operating within the fulfillment system, resolving prescription and insurance issues, and collaborating closely with pharmacists, patients, and prescribers. This position offers a contract-to-hire path and is an excellent opportunity for newly certified pharmacy technicians to gain hands-on experience in a non-retail environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare prescription medications using the fulfillment system in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of drug products to ensure accuracy, safety, and timely delivery.
- Process prescription exceptions, including resolving claim rejections and coordinating outreach to members and physicians as needed.
- Enter member demographics and prescription information accurately into the data processing system.
- Research and resolve rejected insurance billing issues and escalated member concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Escalate questions regarding prescriptions to a pharmacist for interpretation, clarification, or processing direction.
- Assist with inbound and outbound patient calls, providing clear information and support related to prescriptions and fulfillment.
- Assist with inbound and outbound physician calls to clarify orders, obtain additional information, or support prescription processing.
- Work efficiently at an assigned station in a high-volume micro fulfillment center while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Follow all standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, and compliance requirements related to pharmacy operations.
- Collaborate with team members and pharmacists to support smooth workflow across the fulfillment center.
- Maintain a high level of productivity while standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks similar to assembly line or warehousing work.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-4 years of pharmacy technician experience, or at least 6 months of experience for candidates who are certified or licensed.
- Current pharmacy technician registration and certification or license as required by the state of operation.
- Active certified or licensed pharmacy technician status with no certifications or licenses expiring within the next 90 days.
- Ability to process prescription exceptions, including resolving claim rejections and coordinating member and physician outreach.
- Proficiency in entering member demographics and prescription information into a data processing system accurately.
- Experience researching and resolving rejected insurance billing issues and escalated member issues.
- Ability to recognize when to escalate prescription questions to a pharmacist for interpretation or processing direction.
- Strong communication skills for handling inbound and outbound calls with patients and physicians.
- Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced, fulfillment-focused environment.
- Ability to stand for the majority of the workday and perform repetitive tasks at an assigned station.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in handling medications and prescription data.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work the assigned schedule.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Pharmacy technician certification, license, or certificate, with eligibility for work in the state of operation.
- Willingness to work in a micro fulfillment center environment rather than a traditional retail pharmacy setting.
- Experience with fulfillment operations or assembly line and warehousing-style workflows.
- Comfort working with fulfillment systems and technology used to prepare and distribute medications.
- Openness to contract-to-hire opportunities, with interest in long-term employment based on performance and business needs.
- Newly certified pharmacy technicians are encouraged to apply; testing and evaluation may be available for those with limited experience.
- Pharmacy technician trainee license holders may be considered based on skills and readiness to perform in a fulfillment environment.
Work Environment
This role is based onsite at a pharmacy fulfillment center and operates in a very fast-paced, high-volume setting.
