Job Summary and Qualifications
Collects appropriate blood specimens by venipuncture or capillary puncture using proper technique. Receives other specimens. Collects timed blood specimens. Keeps blood collection workload on track to avoid delays. Prioritizes specimen collections appropriately. Delivers blood specimens to work sections timely. Centrifuges specimens as appropriate. Enters outpatient orders into the LIS system and collects specimens. Retrieves specimens from drop box and receives them. Answers phone, reviews of outpatient requisitions, faxing reports, filing, and stocking. Performs EKGs on outpatients and submits printouts to the Respiratory department.
Errors or mistakes occur infrequently or are minor in nature. Generally, conscientious in completing tasks error-free. Follows hospital rules as described in department and hospital policies, seeks out assistance if unsure. Completes work with minimal supervision. Adjusts to workload variations as assigned. Follows established safety guidelines in all work-related activities, follows standard precautions, including hand washing and use of PPE properly, handles hazardous materials within the department.
Education Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience Preferred: Phlebotomy or Hospital experience
Certification Preferred: Completion of phlebotomy training program
