Job Title: Phlebotomist - Brooklyn

Job Description

This role offers an experienced phlebotomist the opportunity to work in a new patient service center in Brooklyn, providing high-quality specimen collection and patient care in a fast-paced environment. You will perform a high volume of blood draws each day, ensure accurate specimen handling, and deliver clear, courteous communication to patients and colleagues while maintaining strict procedural and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the procedure.
  • Collect blood and other specimens, such as urine or fecal samples, according to established laboratory procedures and protocols.
  • Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures to patients before and during the process.
  • Label all specimen tubes accurately and match them to the appropriate laboratory requisition forms to ensure correct patient and test identification.
  • Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders and protocols.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against the script or order to ensure 100% accuracy before processing.
  • Package specimens securely for transport, following all required procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Store specimen samples at the required temperature and place them in appropriate collection containers or tubes according to protocol.
  • Record maintenance data, perform decontamination tasks, and follow all cleanliness and safety procedures in the work area.
  • Update patient information accurately in the system and maintain complete and precise documentation for all collections.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures and protocols to maintain quality, safety, and regulatory compliance in specimen collection and handling.
  • Collaborate effectively with the other phlebotomist at the site to manage daily workflow and ensure timely completion of all blood draws and related tasks.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent professional phlebotomy experience, performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
  • Strong proficiency in performing venipuncture, including blood draws using straight needles.
  • Demonstrated experience with specimen collection, labeling, centrifuging, storing, and packaging specimens according to established procedures.
  • Ability to accurately match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes and verify all test requisitions or computer labels against orders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic data entry, documentation, and communication tasks.
  • Reliable and punctual work habits, with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bilingual communication skills are a plus.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients is an advantage.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume patient service center or similar outpatient setting is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in labeling, documentation, and verification processes.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team in a two-person site.
  • Comfort working in a structured environment with established protocols and quality standards.

Work Environment

This position is based in a newly opened patient service center in Brooklyn. The site operates as a two-person location, where you and one other phlebotomist will perform approximately 30-50 blood draws per day in a fast-paced, patient-facing environment. You will work with standard phlebotomy equipment, including straight needles, butterfly needles, centrifuges, and specimen storage and transport materials, as well as computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and patient information updates. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with every other Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The work requires consistent adherence to safety, cleanliness, and specimen integrity protocols in a clinical setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brooklyn, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
