Job Title: Phlebotomist - Brownstown

Job Description

This phlebotomist position offers hands-on experience in an outpatient setting, performing frequent blood draws, specimen processing, and packaging for shipment to a medical testing facility. The role combines direct patient interaction with coordination of daily clinic schedules and sample logistics, and may include both stationary and float assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform 25-30 blood draws per day, ensuring accurate venipuncture and safe specimen collection.
  • Properly process collected specimens according to established procedures and quality standards.
  • Correctly package samples for transport, following all labeling, documentation, and handling requirements.
  • Communicate daily with clinic staff to organize and schedule patient blood draws.
  • Coordinate pickup and shipping of collected samples to the medical testing site in Novi/Farmington.
  • Apply knowledge of order of draw and BD Vacutainer tube color sequence for multiple tube collections.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in specimen identification and processing.
  • Provide professional and courteous patient care during all blood draw procedures.
  • Work effectively as part of a small team or independently at offsite locations.
  • Adhere to all safety, infection control, and confidentiality protocols in the clinical environment.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant performing blood draws, specimen processing, and packaging.
  • Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification or completion of a relevant certificate program.
  • Documented experience completing 200 or more solo blood draws.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture and blood draw techniques in an outpatient setting.
  • Ability to accurately describe and apply the correct order of draw for blood collection.
  • Knowledge of BD Vacutainer tube colors and their sequence for multiple tube collections.
  • Strong specimen collection and specimen processing skills.
  • High level of reliability and availability, with no planned time off in the next 90 days.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with clinic staff and team members.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in outpatient clinics or similar ambulatory care environments.
  • Ability to work in both stationary and float phlebotomy roles as needed.
  • Comfort working independently or with small teams at offsite locations.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage daily schedules, draws, and sample logistics.
  • Commitment to maintaining accuracy and quality in all aspects of specimen handling.
  • Interest in gaining extensive hands-on phlebotomy experience and growing within the role.
  • Ability to adapt to varying patient volumes and workflow across different locations.

Work Environment

This role is based in Brownstown with specimens shipped to a medical testing facility in the Novi/Farmington area. The schedule is Monday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The team typically wears navy blue scrubs as the standard dress code. Approximately 15 people work onsite at the main Farmington facility, while individual offsite locations generally have between 0-2 colleagues present, and offsite teams can range from 0-3 people depending on the location. The environment is an outpatient clinical setting that emphasizes hands-on phlebotomy experience, with opportunities to work in both stationary and float positions and receive performance-based raises at six months.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Riverview, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
