Scope of Responsibility 

Phlebotomists obtain adult and pediatric specimens of all types using appropriate methods as well as log and distribute samples according to policy. Based on training and experience, phlebotomists will also perform waived laboratory testing, EKGs, Breath Alcohol testing, Chain-of-custody drug screen collections and Hair Drug Screen Collections while providing phlebotomy support to Nursing Homes and off-site locations as necessary. 

Phlebotomists working at outpatient facility will be required to be proficient in all areas of testing including EKG, Breath Alcohol testing, Chain-of-custody drug screen collections and Hair Drug Screen collections.

Responsible to Director of Laboratory Services

  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Training and Experience
    • Phlebotomy Certification by ASCP or equivalent certifying agency preferred
    • Minimum 1 year phlebotomy experience preferred
    • Numerical, clerical and computer abilities required
    • Ability to effectively communicate
    • Critical thinking skills necessary
    • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and current insurance coverage
    • The following certifications are preferred:
    • - Certified Professional Collector
    • - Breath Alcohol Technician
    • - Hair Drug Collector
    • - EKG Technician
