Responsibilities
In this role the The Phlebotomy/EKG Technician will perform the following job duties:
Provide direct and indirect inpatient and outpatient care services including phlebotomy, ECG testing and transportation of patients.
Verify patient identification by using two patient identifiers: Name, DOB or Medical Record Number but never identifies patient by room number.
Label all specimens in front of patient with required information, EMR ID, date and time of collection.
Blood is drawn according to established hospital procedures in a safe manner with minimum trauma to the patient.
Monitor for adverse effects of blood draws.
Compliant with all safety standards and utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Understand and apply knowledge of test specimen requirements and utilizes available reference materials to ensure that all specimens are collected correctly.
Resolve unusual test orders by contacting the appropriate healthcare provider and notifying fellow staff and/or management of unresolved orders
Maintain annual required competency training and provides necessary support to maintain proper equipment function.
Understand and apply knowledge of test specimen and policy requirements and utilizes available reference materials to ensure that all specimens and exams are collected correctly.
Resolve unusual test orders by contacting the appropriate healthcare provider and notifying fellow staff and/or management of unresolved orders.
Adhere to the proper procedure for obtaining, charging for, and returning supplies/equipment and maintains adequate supply levels through the use of accurate inventory control.
Provide efficient transportation for patients both to and from requesting service areas.
Utilize selected healthcare IT applications proficiently as assigned by management.
Perform other duties as assigned by management within job scope.

Education/Training
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
Required: One (1) year Cardiovascular or Phlebotomy
Preferred: EEG experience
Certificates/Licenses/Registration
Required: Post-Employment: BLS provided by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days of hire
