Under the supervision of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, the Phlebotomist ensures accurate specimen collection, labeling, and handling. They maintain a clean environment, support patient comfort and safety, and help educate and reassure patients during procedures.
Specimen Collection: Accurately interprets provider test orders and follows approved standard operating procedures for all specimen collections.
Specimen Accessioning: Accurately uses the HIS and LIS for patient registration and test order entry.
Specimen Processing:
Evaluates provider test orders and collects specimens for acceptability and determines rejections according to established guidelines.
Accurately labels aliquot samples as required.
Recognizes and corrects defects before they are passed on to the next step of the process.
Computer: Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of the HIS and LIS software systems in all job-related functions.
Team Member Training: Assists with training of team members and students.
Patient Experience/Customer Service: Models compassionate, patient-centered care by ensuring comfort during specimen collection, addressing concerns with empathy, and maintaining a professional, respectful demeanor to enhance the overall patient experience.
