Adelphi is seeking Phlebotomists to provide services at a facility in Houston, Texas. Inpatient units operate 24/7, with coverage required for day, evening, night, weekend, and Federal Holiday shifts.
The outpatient draw clinic operates Monday–Friday, 6am–5:30pm.

Requirements:
• Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Minimum two (2) years of phlebotomy experience
• Must have performed phlebotomy services within the last three years

Responsibilities:
• Perform phlebotomy duties on both inpatients and outpatients.
• Draw blood from approximately 40 to 80 patients per day, including at least 20% hard-stick patients, as required.
• Perform routine and complex blood draws from patients with difficult-to-access veins.
• Assemble and prepare phlebotomy equipment, including tourniquets, needles, blood collection devices, gauze, vacuum tubes, alcohol, chloral prep, blood collection carts, related supplies.
• Verify and correctly identify patients using two approved patient identifiers before specimen collection.
• Draw blood and blood cultures using proper venipuncture techniques and approved collection methods.
• Apply tourniquets, locate accessible veins, disinfect puncture areas, insert needles, collect specimens, withdraw needles, and provide appropriate care to puncture sites.
• Label specimens in the presence of the patient, initial specimens, and transport collected specimens to the processing area.
• Ensure sufficient blood volume is collected for each requested test or procedure.
• Perform outpatient specimen collection services, including blood collection, urine collections, and glucose tolerance testing.
• Perform related technical laboratory procedures, such as computer test accessioning, specimen centrifugation, serum separation, and related tasks.
• Interpret and clarify physician orders from written requests and hard-copy orders.
• Access necessary data through computer systems and communicate results to physicians, nurses, and other authorized medical personnel as necessary.
• Recognize emergent patient situations, including CPR or choking events, and initiate immediate action consistent with medical center policy.
• Maintain complete and accurate records related to specimen collection.
• Protect patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and facility requirements.
• Any other duties as assigned.
