Job Title: Patient Services Representative I (Phlebotomist)

Job Summary

The Patient Services Representative I (PSR I) serves as the primary point of contact for patients, delivering exceptional customer service while performing safe, accurate, and efficient specimen collection. This role is responsible for collecting blood specimens, preparing samples for laboratory testing, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring compliance with established clinical and safety protocols. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong phlebotomy skills, professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient confidentiality and quality care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and specimen collection for patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations.
  • Process, label, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing according to established procedures.
  • Collect and process both clinical and forensic specimens while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
  • Accurately complete required documentation and maintain patient records.
  • Verify patient identity and explain collection procedures to ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment.
  • Follow all company policies, laboratory procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate leadership behaviors and support continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a positive image of the organization through professional interactions with patients, clients, and colleagues.
  • Perform assigned daily tasks accurately and within established timelines under the direction of the Area Supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience (required).
  • Strong venipuncture skills, including experience with pediatric and geriatric patients.
  • Keyboarding and data entry experience.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform accurately in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant, Paramedic, or equivalent medical training.
  • Phlebotomy certification (required only in California, Nevada, and Washington; preferred for other locations).
  • One or more years of phlebotomy experience.
  • Customer service experience in a healthcare, retail, or service environment.
