Job Description: Phlebotomist I (Patient Services Representative I)

Location: Ruskin, FL

Duration: 4+ Months (Possibility of Extension)

Shift: 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Off: Thursday & Sunday)


Position Overview

The Phlebotomist I / Patient Services Representative I (PSR I) serves as the primary point of contact for patients, representing the organization with professionalism and care. This role is responsible for performing high-quality blood specimen collection and ensuring proper handling and processing for laboratory testing.

The PSR I plays a critical role in delivering an excellent patient experience by maintaining a safe, accurate, and compassionate environment, while adhering to all established procedures.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner
  • Prepare and process specimens for laboratory testing following established protocols
  • Ensure proper labeling, handling, and documentation of all specimens
  • Provide clear and empathetic communication to patients, explaining procedures and addressing concerns
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment
  • Perform both clinical and forensic specimen collection when required
  • Accurately maintain patient records and documentation in compliance with company policies
  • Follow all safety, confidentiality, and compliance standards (HIPAA, etc.)
  • Work independently under the direction of the area supervisor
  • Promote a positive image of the organization to patients, clients, and the public

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong phlebotomy skills, including experience with pediatric and geriatric patients
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • High level of accuracy and commitment to quality
  • Basic computer and data entry/keyboard skills
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
  • Medical Assistant or Paramedic training (Preferred)
  • Phlebotomy Certification (Preferred)
    • Required in California, Nevada, and Washington

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience (Required)
  • 1+ year of phlebotomy experience (Preferred)
  • Prior customer service experience in retail or service environment (Preferred)
  • Data entry or administrative experience (Required)

Work Schedule & Flexibility

  • Must be flexible with scheduling, including:
    • Weekends
    • Holidays
    • On-call shifts
    • Overtime as needed
