Job Title: Phlebotomist II

Schedule: Part-Time 24 hours/Week - Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:00 am - 5:30 pm

Job Description

The Phlebotomist II is responsible for conducting blood draws and labeling specimens accurately. The role involves processing samples, maintaining records, and updating patient information while ensuring that specimens are collected and stored according to established procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct blood draws and label specimens accurately.
  • Centrifuge specimens and maintain data records.
  • Update patient information and ensure specimens match laboratory requisition forms.
  • Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Verify test requisitions or computer labels for accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
  • Follow specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Phlebotomy and venipuncture skills.
  • Phlebotomy certification and WA State Phlebotomy License.
  • 0-2+ years of experience performing venipunctures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to draw blood from patients of all ages, from pediatric to geriatric.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Knowledge of handling hard stick patients is preferred.

Work Environment

The position is set in a fast-paced lab environment where you will be drawing blood from patients across all age groups, from pediatrics to geriatrics. On average, you will perform approximately 25 draws per patient.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bellingham, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
