Job Overview

The Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) – Phlebotomist serves as the frontline representative of the organization, interacting directly with patients in a professional and compassionate manner. This role is responsible for collecting high-quality blood samples, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and ensuring accuracy, safety, and patient confidentiality throughout the entire process.

The PSR II plays a critical role in fostering patient trust by explaining procedures, performing skillful specimen collection, and upholding the highest standards of service excellence.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily phlebotomy and specimen collection activities accurately and within established timelines.
  • Collect blood samples (including venipuncture and capillary collections) following standard procedures.
  • Verify patient information and ensure proper labeling of specimens in the patient’s presence.
  • Obtain patient signatures post-collection for verification of specimen labeling accuracy.
  • Process and prepare specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring compliance with protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and data entry.
  • Follow all company policies related to safety, confidentiality, and quality standards.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and professional working environment.
  • Provide excellent patient care while maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational commitment and promote a positive company image.
  • Perform both clinical and forensic specimen collection when required.
  • Travel to multiple locations (patient service centers, clinics, or offices) as needed with minimal notice.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong phlebotomy skills (including pediatric and geriatric patients).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to error-free work.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, overtime, or on-call shifts as needed.
  • Ability to adapt to change and work in dynamic environments.
  • Strong data entry and basic computer skills.
  • REQUIRED: Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) Candidate

Education & Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent – Required
  • Medical Assistant, Paramedic, or relevant medical training – Preferred
  • Phlebotomy Certification – Preferred (Required in CA, NV, WA if applicable)

Work Experience

  • 1–3 years of phlebotomy experience (including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections) – Required
  • 2+ years in a Patient Service Center (PSC) environment – Preferred
  • Prior experience in customer service (retail or service-based roles) – Highly Preferred
  • Keyboard/data entry experience – Required

Additional Requirements

  • Reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license (if applicable)
  • Ability to travel to multiple work sites
  • Compliance with company policies on dress code, health & safety, and operational procedures
  • Willingness to attend training at various locations based on availability
