    Job Description – Phlebotomist II

    Job Title: Phlebotomist II
    Location: Ruston, LA
    Duration: 1+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
    Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

    Position Summary

    We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II to join our team in Ruston, LA. The Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) serves as the face of the organization, providing exceptional patient care while performing blood collection and specimen processing duties. This role involves working directly with patients in a professional, compassionate, and confidential manner while ensuring specimens are collected, labeled, and processed accurately according to established protocols.

    The ideal candidate will have strong phlebotomy skills, including experience with pediatric and geriatric patients, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and customer service.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform venipuncture, capillary, and specimen collection procedures accurately and efficiently.
    • Collect, process, label, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing following established procedures.
    • Verify patient demographics and identification prior to specimen collection.
    • Obtain patient initials/signatures post-collection to confirm specimen labeling accuracy.
    • Maintain all required records, documentation, and data entry accurately.
    • Ensure compliance with safety, confidentiality, and quality assurance standards.
    • Create a positive patient experience by explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns professionally.
    • Demonstrate leadership behaviors and support process excellence initiatives.
    • Maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment.
    • Perform both clinical and forensic specimen collection procedures as required.
    • Promote a positive image of the organization among patients, clients, employees, and the community.
    • Travel to multiple locations as needed to support business operations and staffing requirements.

    Required Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • 1–3 years of phlebotomy experience required, including:
      • Pediatric collections
      • Geriatric collections
      • Capillary collections
    • Strong specimen processing and labeling experience.
    • Keyboarding and data entry proficiency.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Medical Assistant, Paramedic, or other medical training preferred.
    • Phlebotomy Certification preferred (required in CA, NV, and WA).
    • 2+ years of experience in a Patient Service Center (PSC) environment preferred.
    • Customer service experience in a healthcare, retail, or service setting preferred.

    Additional Requirements

    • Flexible to work additional hours, weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime as needed.
    • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record (if applicable).
    • Ability to travel between Patient Service Centers and physician office locations with minimal notice.
    • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
    • Ability to make sound decisions using established procedures and professional judgment.
    • Commitment to workplace safety, company policies, dress code standards, and organizational values.
