Work Environment
This is a hospital-based, inpatient-focused phlebotomy role supporting multiple facilities in a regional network. The position primarily covers evening (PM) shifts but requires flexibility to work morning (AM) and night (NOC) shifts. Typical schedules at one location may run from around 1:00 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. or 10:00 p.m., with other locations starting as early as 1:00 p.m. or as late as mid-afternoon. The role involves rotating weekly among several hospital and medical office locations, with a core site each week and scheduled rotations to other facilities. The environment is high volume and inpatient-oriented, including pediatrics, ICU, and other acute care areas, with significant specimen processing responsibilities. Initial training lasts approximately 2-3 months, during which you receive full-time hours and train on first shift, Monday through Friday, at a single primary location. After training, you can expect to work a minimum of about 30 hours per week, though shift availability may vary based on union agreements and same-day call-outs. Supervisors and schedulers call per diem staff to fill open shifts, and you may occasionally work split shifts or have shifts cancelled up to two hours before start time. Weekend and holiday coverage is an integral part of the schedule; efforts are made to rotate weekends so that staff have some weekends off and time when they are not on call, but you must remain comfortable working weekends and on-call assignments. The dress code requires scrubs, reflecting a professional clinical environment. The organization offers access to benefits such as wellness and discount programs, care roadmap resources, and online learning platforms to support professional growth and well-being.
