This phlebotomist role focuses on high-volume blood collection, specimen processing, and packaging in an outpatient setting based in Royal Oak, MI. You will perform frequent venipuncture procedures, coordinate closely with clinic staff, and ensure that all samples are accurately processed and shipped to the designated medical testing site. This position offers hands-on experience in both stationary and float assignments, along with clear opportunities for growth and development.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws (venipuncture) for patients approximately 25-30 times per day, ensuring comfort, safety, and adherence to clinical standards.
• Collect specimens accurately using proper phlebotomy techniques and follow the correct order of draw, including BD Vacutainer tube color sequence for multiple tube collections.
• Process collected specimens according to established protocols, including labeling, handling, and preparing samples for transport.
• Package specimens securely and correctly to maintain sample integrity during transport to the medical testing site in the Novi/Farmington area.
• Communicate daily with clinic staff to coordinate and schedule blood draws, ensuring efficient patient flow and minimal wait times.
• Organize and schedule courier pick-ups or shipping of specimens, confirming that all required documentation and packaging are complete.
• Maintain accurate records of all draws, including documentation of at least 200 solo draws performed, and update logs or systems as required.
• Follow all clinic and laboratory procedures, including safety and infection control protocols, to maintain a clean and compliant work area.
• Collaborate with onsite and offsite team members to support smooth clinic operations, adjusting to both stationary and float assignments as needed.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant performing blood draws, processing, and packaging samples.
• Demonstrated experience completing at least 200 solo blood draws.
• Proficiency in phlebotomy and venipuncture techniques, including specimen collection and specimen processing.
• Strong knowledge of the order of draw and BD Vacutainer tube color sequence for multiple tube collections.
• Ability to accurately process, label, and package specimens for transport.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with clinic staff and logistics personnel for scheduling blood draws and specimen pick-ups.
• High level of attention to detail and ability to follow established clinical and laboratory procedures.
• High School Diploma or equivalent education.
• Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification or certificate.

• Experience working in outpatient settings and clinics.
• Comfort working both in stationary roles and as a float across different locations.
• Ability to work consistently without planned time off during the initial 90-day period, supporting reliable coverage and continuity of care.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple daily draws, processing tasks, and shipping schedules.
• Ability to work effectively in small teams and independently, depending on the assignment location.
• Motivation to grow within a phlebotomy-focused role, with the opportunity for performance-based raises at 6 months.

Work Environment

This role is based at 2033 Crooks Road in Royal Oak, MI, with standard hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You will work primarily in an outpatient clinical environment, performing hands-on phlebotomy and specimen processing. The team typically wears navy blue scrubs as standard attire. At the main site in Farmington, there are approximately 15 team members onsite, while individual offsite locations may have anywhere from 0-2 other employees present. When working offsite, you may be part of a team of 0-3 people depending on the location, so you should be comfortable working both independently and in small groups. The environment emphasizes accurate specimen handling, consistent communication with clinic staff, and adherence to clinical safety and quality standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Royal Oak, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
