You will handle both pre- and post-analytical aspects of testing, ensure accurate data entry, and collaborate closely with medical assistants and other clinical staff. The position is ideal for a skilled, compassionate professional who enjoys working with cancer patients and complex draws while contributing to a supportive, growth-oriented organization.

  • Collect and receive biological specimens into the department, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and handling according to established procedures.
  • Accurately enter patient and specimen information into the laboratory computer system and verify data for completeness and correctness.
  • Prepare specimens for analytical testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and appropriate storage or transport to designated analytical areas.
  • Distribute specimens to the proper analytical departments or testing areas in a timely and organized manner.
  • Perform specified analytical testing as assigned, following established protocols and quality standards.
  • Manage pre-analytical tasks such as verifying orders, preparing collection materials, and educating patients on collection procedures when needed.
  • Handle post-analytical tasks, including proper disposal of materials, documentation of completed collections, and communication of any issues or delays to appropriate staff.
  • Follow all guidelines outlined in the organizations Code of Conduct, including safety, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
  • Work closely with medical assistants and other clinical staff to coordinate patient flow and ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Provide compassionate, patient-centered care, especially for cancer patients and those who may be anxious or in distress.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including phlebotomy stations and specimen processing areas.
  • Participate as a cooperative team member, assisting colleagues as needed to meet departmental goals and patient needs.

Essential Skills

  • At least 12 years of phlebotomy experience, including experience with difficult blood draws.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in blood collection techniques, including venipuncture and specimen handling.
  • Experience working with cancer patients or other medically complex patients requiring gentle, skilled blood draws.
  • Hands-on experience with specimen processing, including receiving, labeling, preparing, and routing samples.
  • Ability to accurately enter and verify patient and specimen information in a computer system.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong team orientation and ability to collaborate effectively with medical assistants and other clinical staff.
  • Commitment to following established protocols, safety procedures, and a formal Code of Conduct.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of specimen collection and processing.
  • Ability to provide compassionate, respectful patient care in a clinical setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy experience in a cancer center or oncology setting.
  • Demonstrated success with difficult draws and anxious patients.
  • Interest in professional growth within a structured career ladder for phlebotomy roles.
  • Motivation to advance to higher-level phlebotomy positions as opportunities arise.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support positive patient and team interactions.
